Here is the body mounted on my rotisserie, ready to start removing all the old paint. I decided to try scraping and sanding as much of the old paint as possibe to avoid the possibility of leaving any paint remover residue under the new paint. Haven't really decided on the exterior color yet, thinking maybe something like the Sunburst Orange metallic on the Chevy Colorado.
At some time in the past the right side rocker panel had been damaged and repaired. The inner fiberglass support panel was completely gone and there was about 1/2" of body filler added behind the front wheel opening to "straighten out" the panel. I have removed all the body filler and will re-glass the panel.
The right side rocker panel end cap piece was missing so here is one I fabricated from fiberglass
The right side body mount support bracket was also missing. I fabricated this one from 1/8" aluminum. The right side rocker panel support piece (the long fiberglass piece that connects the floor pan to the rocker panel) was also missing. Since I will be painting the underside, I fabricated a replacement from aluminum. You can see the new aluminum piece in the above picture on the right.
Frame has arrived. This as a rectangular tube frame from Corvette Corrections (owner's name is Billy Dawson) , Seguin, TX. I made a wooden frame to fit in the bed of my truck to hold the frame. Billy was on his way to Carlisle and I arranged to meet him along his route, only about 90 miles from where I live.
